Nairobi is readying itself for the annual East Africa International Arbitration Conference.
The organisers of the seventh edition of the event that is scheduled for August 29 – 30, 2019 are projecting it as the platform on which to learn, share best practices, network, deliberate on International Arbitration as a tool for promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) in Africa and to promote, profile and celebrate international arbitration and arbitrators in Africa.

Held on the theme, Government Contracting and Investment Disputes: Lessons for States and Investors, the conference is expected to explore the full spectrum of government contracting from procurement and public-private partnerships (PPPs), tender disputes, dispute mitigation in government contracts, investment arbitration and arbitrating with governments in African centres.

David Maraga, the Chief Justice of Kenya, is expected to deliver keynote address as arbitration practitioners, arbitration users, states counsel, academics, and in-house corporate lawyers gathered at Radisson Blu Hotel grapple with questions like:
- How can governments and investors better contract?
- How can disputes be mitigated?
- Can damages be better assessed and recovered?, and
- Do African international arbitration centres and practitioners have a place in investment arbitration?
