Inaugural Junior Triathlon Wraps Up

Scheduled for September is the annual Kilifi Gold Triathlon that seeks to fundraise for the Kilifi community with focus to local and grassroots projects that make a difference in the lives of those in need.The inaugural Inyuat Junior Triathlon went down March 9, 2024.

Organised by Serare School, Natare Gardens and Team Tri Fit (TTF), the event saw 18 participants and eight teams of three aged 9yrs – 17yrs swim, cycle and run through the beautiful and expansive Ngong Hills and Kerarapon area of Kajiado County on the outskirts of Nairobi City.

The budding triathletes took on the following distances:-

  • 9yrs – 11yrs – 200m Swim – 6KM Off Road Bike – 1.5KM Run
  • 12yrs – 14yrs – 400m Swim – 10KM Off Road Bike – 3KM Run
  • 15yrs – 17yrs – 600m Swim – 10KM Off Road Bike – 5KM Run

The individual junior male category (9yrs – 11yrs) saw Dante Murugu of Premier Academy take first place in a time of 59min. He was followed by Thuku Kingori from Kilimani Junior School in a time of 1hr 12min while Ethan Obinju of Rusinga School closed off the podium in a time of 1hr 14min.

In the individual female category of the same age bracket, Keanna Knopp of Brookhouse Karen took first place in a time of 53min followed by Katweri Imathiu of Brookhouse School in second place in a time of 56min. In third place was Pendo Nanjero of St. Hanna’s Preparatory School who completed the event in a time of 1hr 4min.

The Team Relay category saw Team Guava comprising Abigail Wang, Sidney Murray and Valentina Amato from Braeburn Gitanga take top honors in a time of 52min. Hot on their heels were Team Serare C consisting of Karara Escriva, Alvin Ndemo and Kiprono Moses in second place in a time of 58min. Team Scramble took third place in a time of 1hr 1min comprising of Leshan Montet and Heri Wanyama from St. Mary’s School.

    Nathan Mutugi – Serare school – 2hrs 8min
    Wanjiku Mathu – Kilimani Junior Academy – 2hrs 10min
  • Team Junior 12yrs – 14yrs
    The Exotic Donkeys – Braeburn Garden Estate – 1hr 27min
    Team Serare A – Serare School – 1hr 37min
    Team Serare B – Serare School – 1hr 45min
  • Team Junior 15yrs – 17yrs
    Los Más Fuertes – Braeburn Gardens Estate – 1hr 38min

Closing the year in December is the 113 Shujaa Triathlon.With the close of the Inyuat Junior Triathlon, all roads lead to Karen Country Club for the Karen Open Triathlon slated for April 14, 2024. This adult off road sprint triathlon is open for registration and will offer 130 slots.

  • Kilifi Gold Triathlon
    Date – September
    Terrain – Open water swim + Off Road Bike + Off Road Run
    Distances – 750m swim + 20KM Bike + 5KM Run
  • Mugie Triathlon
    Date – October
    Terrain – Open water swim + Off Road Bike + Off Road Run
    Distances – 750m swim + 20KM Bike + 5KM Run
  • 113 Shujaa Triathlon
    Date – December
    Terrain – Open water swim + On Road Bike + On Road Run
    Distances – Sprint + Olympic + Middle Distance
