Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO), that says it is a national umbrella body whose role is to promote, foster, enhance, and protect the interests of players in the Aviation Industry and allied businesses., says it regrets the decision by the Kenya Airline Pilots Association (KALPA) to call for a strike starting from November 5, 2022.

“This is a matter of grave importance to us as it not only affects our member, Kenya Airways, who we unequivocally support, but also every player in the aviation industry, the welfare of the Kenyan people and the stability of the Kenyan economy which was already badly affected by the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic,” KAAO says. “We consider this action poorly considered in that KALPA is holding both the airline management and the government to ransom over a matter which should be dealt with without resorting to such an extreme course of action.”

Saying “The impact of any strike has ramifications across the wider aviation landscape in Kenya,” KAAO contends that “Kenya Airways has indicated that this will result in a loss of US$2.5M a day, not including the downstream impact on other players. As the umbrella body of Air Operators in Kenya, we would hope that KALPA takes this into consideration and engage the airline management in a more rational manner. We urge both parties to urgently seek a speedy resolution to this impasse which would damage an already fragile recovery process, not only for the airline, but also for the Kenyan aviation sector.”
